Aerosmith
has become one of the most resistant rock bands over the
past four decades and continues to build a fan base after
more than 35 years of playing. The group met in Boston in
1970 and began practicing in a garage and playing locally
around the Boston area. In 1972, they landed a contract
with Columbia Records and released their debut self-titled
album in 1973. Their classic rock and roll style won a large
fan base instantly and they began to tour extensively across
the US due to the public acceptance of their debut album.
Their second album, Get Your Wings, spent 82 weeks on the
Billboard charts and set the stage for their third album,
Toys in the Attic, to become their breakthrough album and
produce a string of hits that are now considered classic
legendary rock. “Dream On,” and “Walk
This Way” were among the songs that made Toys in the
Attic such a top seller and their first album to gain platinum
status.
Over
the next decade, Aerosmith produced several classic rock
albums, all of which performed well on the charts and gained
platinum status. In 1981, after years of touring and the
hectic drug filled life that accompanies that lifestyle,
Aerosmith lost both of their guitarists and it looked like
the end for one of the 70’s best rock bands. That
all changed in 1986, when the rap group Run DMC did a remake
of “Walk This Way” and they performed live with
Aerosmith at the MTV Music Awards. Two years later, in 1989,
the band released Pump and it reached number 5 on the charts,
claiming a whole new generation of fans.
Aerosmith
continues to win over the younger fans in each decade since
they first started playing music. Recently the band won
Best Rock Band at the Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice
Awards and Aerosmith concert tickets continue to sell out
every time they tour. Their fan base ranges in age from
15 to 65 and these age groups can be seen at any one of
their concerts. With such an amazing ability to keep their
music current and likable, Aerosmith should be around for
another few decades.
