| Born in Ottawa, Ontario, Alanis Morissette began her singing
career at the young age of 9, while visiting the home of Australian
pop singer Olivia Newton John. After securing a television
role on You Can’t Do That on Television and landing
a spot on Star Search, Alanis was well on her way to securing
a place in the public eye. Her first album, self titled Alanis,
was a mixture of dance pop tunes the fit well with the teenage
crowd in Canada. She gained attention from the Canadian public
with her first album but it wasn’t until 1995 that Alanis
Morissette would really break records with her music.
After being dropped by MCA Records, Alanis went soul searching
in both Los Angeles and Nashville for 5 years. Drawing from
her experiences, she finally met up with producer and songwriter,
Glen Ballard, and was ready to write, sing and record a
new album. The connection was instant and she was signed
onto Maverick Records, the label owned by Madonna. This
album would take a much different approach then her debut
pop album. She wanted to branch away from the late 80’s
style she had for Alanis and invent an eclectic, rage-filled
voice that took the states and the rest of the world by
storm. Henceforth, Ballard and Alanis produced and wrote
Jagged Little Pill, a record that to date has the highest
sales for a female recording artist, sold millions and won
an astounding 4 Grammy awards. Her follow up album, Supposed
Former Infatuation Junkie, has also sold millions and it
is safe to say that at this point, Alanis Morissette has
the golden touch.
With record sales now adding up to more than 20 million,
Alanis Morissette concert tickets and tours sell out within
hours of release. Her latest tour with The Bare Naked Ladies,
was a huge success both domestically and internationally.
Settled now in her native Ontario, Alanis continues to write
and perform at her own pace, leaving fans wanting for more.
