| Alan
Jackson was born on October 17, 1958 in Newnan, GA to a blue
collar family. Playing in country bands in Georgia, Jackson
worked as a mechanic to pay the bills. He met his wife in
high school and the couple decided to move to Nashville in
1985 to pursue Jackson’s music career. The move to the
big-country city was a first a tough break for Alan Jackson,
none of his efforts ended up advancing he career. It wasn’t
until a chance meeting with Glen Campbell by his wife that
Jackson got his big break. Soon after that meeting, Jackson
became a staff writer at Campbell’s music publishing
company. The rest is now country music history.
Alan Jackson eventually got signed on as
the first country artist for Arista and released his first
album, Here in the Real World. The album did moderately
well based on the second single released and he just kept
writing songs and making albums from that point on. In 1991,
Alan Jackson had three singles hit number one; “I’d
Love You All Over Again,” “Don’t Rock
the Jukebox,” and “Someday.” In 1992,
he won the first of many CMA awards for his song “Midnight
in Montgomery.” In 1993, his album, A Lot About Livin’
(And a Little ‘bout Love), sold more than 6 million
copies. Alan Jackson became a huge star after that and during
the course of his 15 year career he has sold more than 40
million records and scored more than 30 number one hits,
of which he penned 21 of those songs. Several artists have
had major hits as well; Jackson wrote hits for Randy Travis,
Clay Walker and Faith Hill, making him one of the most respected
songwriters in Nashville. His duet with Jimmy Buffet, “It’s
Five O’clock Somewhere,” was Buffett’s
biggest hit to date and Jackson won another CMA for that
song.
When Alan Jackson tours, the fans flock
to see one of the best singer/songwriter in the industry.
Alan Jackson concert tickets sell out immediately and he
tours with other well known country performers, much to
the enjoyment of all the fans. In 2004, he toured with Martina
McBride and it was one of the most successful tours of that
year. Whether writing songs, singing songs or performing
his songs live; Alan Jackson is definitely a strong fixture
in the country music world.
