Ana Gabriel has been entertaining Spanish
audiences for over twenty years making her one of the
most prolific songwriters of our time. Her music captivates
the listener with its romantic overtones and poetic nature,
as she is a true master of the musical form, the bolero.
Ana Gabriel was born Maria Guadalupe Araujo Young to
Mexican parents of Spanish and Japanese descent in Guamuchil,
Sinaloa. Her first stage performance was at age 6, when
she sang “Regalo a Dios” and she recorded
her first song at age 15. After much struggling and
patience, Ana, got her big break in 1984 when she entered
the Valores Juveniles song festival. She competed as
a songwriter and was awarded second place for her entry,
“No Me Lastimas Mas”, catching the eyes
of Sony Music executives.
After signing with Sony, she competed in the prestigious
OTI song festival for the first time. OTI, an international
songwriting contest, took place in Portugal when she
represented Mexico and won in 1987. Ana has been able
to master so many musical genres, from Lambada, romantic
ballads, Mariachi and boleros. Her songs have gained
her increasing popularity, not only in Mexico, but worldwide
as well. She has been awarded some of the most renowned
international awards and her records have gone Gold,
Platinum and Diamond. Ana Gabriel has 19 top 10 singles
on the Billboard Hot Latin Tracks Chart, including 6
at number one.
Since her debut, she has recorded eighteen very successful
albums which have transcended her from a simple songwriter
to an international music icon. She has delighting fans
since 1987 and by the looks of it, she will continue
to do so for many more years.
