The Black Crowes formed in 1995 performing
classic rock music for the infamous Atlanta Georgia music
scene. The driving force behind the Black Crowes has always
been the two brothers, Chris and Rich Robinson, and their
early love for music. In 1989, the band recorded a demo
and was able to land a recording contract with American
Recordings and released their debut album, Shake Your
Money Maker, in 1990. The album was an instant success
and produced such hits as “Hard to Handle,”
“She Talks to Angels,” and “Jealous
Again.” Shake Your Money Maker was certified platinum
in 1995 with sales of more than 5 million records.
The Black Crowes, having established themselves in
the classic rock genre with their debut album, released
a second album in 1992, The Southern Harmony and Musical
Companion. That album also sold millions, thus proving
that the Black Crowes had the talent and stamina to
maintain their popularity. Throughout the 90’s,
the Black Crowes toured extensively with other heavy
hitting rock acts like Aerosmith and Tom Petty. The
Black Crowes concert tickets and live shows began to
sell out across the nation increasing the demand for
their music and by 2000; they had sold more than 15
million albums worldwide.
Taking some time off in the new millennium, both brothers
pursued solo careers and began to experiment with their
music. But the hiatus ended in 2004, when the band reunited
for five shows in New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom.
Those shows sold out so quickly that they added several
venues across the country, which also sold out as well.
Later, in 2005, the Black Crowes joined up with Tom
Petty for a summer tour and are headed back to the studio
in the fall of 2005 to produce another album. They have
been a staple in the rock genre for the past 15 years
and many fans are eagerly awaiting the release of their
next album and hoping for a tour afterward.
