Man Group is not your traditional rock group and they are
probably one of the few groups out there that are not interested
in mainstream music. The Blue Man Group consists of three
men who are bald and painted completely blue for their live
shows. The shows consist of performances designed to take
the audience through a multi-sensory experience through using
instruments that they designed out of regular materials, like
pipes and leather drums. They currently have shows in New
York, Boston and Chicago and perform nightly to sold out crowds.
Blue Man Group is also known for its debut
album, Audio, which was nominated for a Grammy in the Best
Pop Album category. The Grammy nod helped them to land a
multi-album deal with Atlantic’s Lava Records and
their next album, The Complex, was received so well that
they followed it up with a live tour during the summer of
2003 called The Complex Rock Tour. Not missing out on the
opportunity, Blue Man Group recorded live footage from the
tour and released a DVD with music, tour footage and videos
called The Complex Rock Tour Live and the DVD was certified
platinum. The Complex also utilizes such musicians as Dave
Matthews, Tracy Bonham and Esthero, thus proving that the
Blue Man Group is more than just a vaudeville show.
In 2004, Blue Man Group branched out again
by recording their first television score for Fox’s
“The Jury.” They received critical acclaim for
the score and then went on to work with 20th Century Fox’s
animated feature “Robots” as well. In addition
to their live performances, Blue Man Group has been nominated
for several Emmy awards for their work on “The Tonight
Show,” by creating television specific performances
for the show.
Currently,
Blue Man Group can be seen in New York, Boston and Chicago.
They are slated to start two new shows in Berlin and Toronto
in the upcoming year. Blue Man Group tickets are a hot commodity
and the show is constantly performed in front of packed
theatres. With such abounding creativity it will be very
interesting to see what comes next from the Blue Man Group
and their fan base is much larger now, which has never hurt
any entertainer.
