Jon Bongiovi started playing rock and
roll early in his high school years in New Jersey and
was heavily influenced by his cousin, owner of the famous
New York recording studio, the Power Station. After recording
a hit song, “Runaway,” Jon decided to form
a band in order to support the song and start a music
career. With Jon’s photogenic looks and a solid
band, a contract war among recording companies started
in 1983 and Bon Jovi finally signed with Polygram/Mercury
and released their self-titled debut in 1984. “Runaway”
became a top 40 hit instantly and the band decided to
keep the momentum going with releasing 7800 Fahrenheit
the following year. 7800 Fahrenheit went gold but stopped
there. It wasn’t until the release of Slippery When
Wet did Bon Jovi reach super stardom and gain their first
platinum record.
With their pop/rock style and their stunning good looks,
Bon Jovi stole the hearts of teenagers and housewives
across the nation. Selling more than 9 million copies
of Slippery When Wet in the US alone, Bon Jovi started
a new era of music considered pop-metal. Slippery When
Wet produced the number one hits, “You Give Love
a Bad Name,” and “Livin’ on a Prayer.”
They didn’t stop there. Bon Jovi released New
Jersey, which sold 5 million copies in the US, in 1988
with such hits as “Bad Medicine,” and “I’ll
Be There For You.” Bon Jovi then started an 18
month international tour in 1989 with Cher. After their
huge tour the band went on hiatus and rejoined later
in 1992 for the album Keep the Faith. In the summer
of 1997, Jon Bon Jovi decided to release a solo album
and the group didn’t tour for more than 4 years.
But that didn’t mean they weren’t working
on another hit album. In 2000, Bon Jovi released Crush,
which spawned the chart hits “It’s My Life,”
and “Crush.”
Throughout their extensive career, Bon Jovi has consistently
toured for their fans. Their tours always include international
venues and occasionally the group will perform locally
in New Jersey and New York for their native fans. Bon
Jovi concert tickets sell out consistently and their
loyal fans never miss out on the opportunity to see
a band that has managed to have hit albums for three
decades despite all the changes in the rock sound. Like
the title of their ambitious four CD/DVD released in
November of 2003, 100,000,000 Bon Jovi Fans Can’t
Be Wrong, Bon Jovi’s popularity should be able
to carry them for another 3 decades.
