Cirque du Soleil is by far the most
expansive, thrilling circus troupe in the world. Their
stunning visuals and stunning acrobatics are instantly
recognizable. Their name is synonymous with “magic,”
and each Cirque du Soleil show is an elaborate, fantastical
display of whimsy, color and gravity-defying stunts.
In Cirque du Soleil’s Corteo, a clown imagines
his funeral procession takes place in a carnival. Corteo,
which means a “joyous procession” is a show
of juxtapositions – tragic and silly, perfect
and imperfect all at once. Cirque du Soleil Corteo tickets
transport you to a place between heaven and earth.
Full of spontaneous fun, Cirque du Soleil’s Corteo
features 11 acts, including “Bouncing Beds”,
where six acrobats jump on rotating platforms, and “Chandeliers,”
where the Clown’s former loves come together and
perform aerial acrobatics on three giant chandeliers.
In “Ladder,” a performer tries to reach
an angel watching over the clown, as he balances on
various ladders. In “Paradise,” Cirque du
Soleil performers bounce between a trampoline-like net,
soaring through the air as if it has always been possible
to fly.
Founded by performer Guy Lalibert in Quebec City, Canada,
Cirque du Soleil began in the early eighties as a street
theater troupe known for walking on stilts. In 1984,
Lalibert officially created Cirque du Soleil (Circus
of the Sun) and the group of jugglers, stilt-walkers,
acrobats, fire-eater and dancers began touring the world
with their unique performance style.
Over 50 million people have seen a Cirque du Soleil
show, and it is estimated that 7 million more will see
a Cirque du Soleil show in 2006. With a dozen shows
currently in production, Cirque du Soleil has a show
for every age, experience and taste. A feast for the
eyes, ears and heart, Cirque du Soleil elevates the
circus arts from the dusty big top floor to the level
of great art.
