Often described as the most spectacular even of the
Cirque du Soleil shows, it’s certainly one of
the most unusual, of any Cirque show or any other show
in the world probably for that matter. Starting with
the most striking element: a huge pool of water for
the stage. Cirque’s “O” could very
well stand for H20. The show takes place in the giant
stage-sized pool, where a dazzling array of synchronized
swimmers perform a water ballet unlike anything ever
seen. And there’s plenty to see in “O,”
even with all the water ballet going on, all the while,
aerialists are twisting, spinning and flying through
the air over the pool, often ending in a spectacular
splash of a dive in the enormous pool. The pool is becomes
a character itself in the production, inhabiting a number
of moods, the huge pool is by turns calm, churning,
bubbling, frothy, changing colors, and finally returning
to calm. With Cirque du Soleil, they’re always
willing to go to any lengths to engage the audience
in the show even if it means performing underwater,
(as if there’s ever much chance of getting bored
at this circus. You may have trouble deciding where
to look at any given time with all the action going
on, but there’s never a dull moment. In the history
of this exotic circus, Cirque du Soleil’s “O”
already ranks as one of the company’s landmark
shows. A smash hit almost from the start, a 22 million
dollar theatre was built at the Bellagio precisely for
this show. The long and prestigious history of the fabulously
popular exotic circus company dates back to Montreal
in 1984, from there the Cirque has gone become an audience
favorite around the world and a blockbuster Broadway
theatre scene. They are the original, and although there
are many imitators, no one compares. The Cirque du Soleil
company have yet to be surpassed for their dazzling
range of daring deeds, and for sheer spectacle. But
be warned the the Cirque du Soleil has been known to
be highly addictive. Most people who see one of their
shows, return again and again to see them all.Truly
one of the strips new landmark theatrical productions.
The Cirque du Soleil’s “O” is only
at the Bellagio Hotel, Las Vegas. A Special note for
Cirque du Soleil audiences: For Cirque du Soleil’s
“O,” as with all Cirque productions, the
show features a short pre-show, beginning 15 minutes
before the actual performance. It includes a variety
of comic bits involving the audience. So you may want
to come early.
