To quote the song, “Mamma mia, here I go again. My my, how can I resist you?” How indeed? Audiences have had trouble resisting the musical too. The show has been a blockbuster since its opening night. Mamma Mia is a non-stop nostalgia trip back to the disco days when Swedish supergroup ABBA ruled the charts, and our hearts. The musical follow the story of a young woman named Donna, who is just about to get married but she’s missing just one thing, the father of the bride. So, Donna embarks on a scheme to find out who her father is, without her mother, Sophie, (who has never told her who he is) finding out. So, just invites all three of them to the wedding, and “Mamma Mia” what a scene! The musical does not skimp on songs either, with the show featuring 22 of ABBA's greatest hits, including "Knowing Me, Knowing You" "Dancing Queen," "The Winner Takes It All," "Take A Chance on Me," "Super Trouper," and, of course, the show’s namesake “Mamma Mia.” The show is a light-hearted musical romp with mass appeal. The show has consistently sold-out ticket audiences, and is a Broadway favorite year-after-year. Need more convincing? The Time Magazine review for Mamma Mia said: "This high-energy musical brings happiness wherever it goes!" The sensational show has been met by enthusiastic audiences all over the world and has audiences singing and dancing in the aisles. Given the heavy disco theme of the show, Mamma Mia is most recommended for fans of the disco genre (but really don’t all love disco a little bit deep down, even if we won’t admit to it.)
