The four original Eagles met when they
played back-up on Linda Ronstadt’s album in early
1970. After making a connection and finishing her album,
they headed to the studios themselves to record their
first album, The Eagles, for Asylum Records in 1972. Strangely
enough their sound appeals to foundations of country music
even though they became one of the biggest rock bands
of the 70’s and their music now is referred to as
classic rock. Their first album eventually went gold and
produced the hits “Take it Easy,” “Witchy
Woman,” and “Peaceful Easy Feeling.”
They toured throughout the world after the release of
their next two albums, both going gold, and it wasn’t
until the release of their fourth album, One of These
Nights, which went gold in one week, that their popularity
really became a solid fixture in the rock record books.
Their biggest album came in February of 1976, Eagles:
Their Greatest Hits, and has sold more than 25 million
copies worldwide battling with Michael Jackson’s
Thriller for the best selling album of all time. They
have won numerous Grammy awards and been inducted into
the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Perhaps one of their
most memorable releases in rock history has been Hotel
California, which has sold more than 10 million copies
and produced such hits as “Hotel California,”
“New Kid in Town,” and “Life in the
Fast Lane.” Hotel California won the much coveted
Grammy for Album of the Year in 1977. One of the most
enduring qualities of the Eagles music is the country
rock sounds of the group and their ability to capture
the lifestyles of southern California.
The Eagles eventually called it quits in May of 1982
and every member pursued a solo career. The split lasted
until 1994, when they reunited for an MTV concert special
and decided to launch a live tour that lasted until
1996. They released the album When Hell Freezes Over
which topped the charts and sold millions instantly.
Apparently The Eagles still had the “it”
factor that fans so desperately missed. They still continue
to tour periodically and much to the praise of their
fans, they perform all their hits at their shows. Anytime
the announce a tour, The Eagles concert tickets sell
out within hours at all the venues in their schedule,
proving that their career has managed to impact millions
of loyal fans.
