Raised
by adoptive parents in the tiny Mississippi town of Star,
country superstar Faith Hill’s love of music was apparent
from an early age. Frequently performing for guests at her
parents’ home, Faith Hill first sang in public at
a 4-H event. From then on, she performed wherever she could,
including at fairs, rodeos, and other local events. Little
did anyone know that the young country crooner would soon
have fans around the world, fighting to purchase Faith Hill’s
concert tickets.
After
high school, Faith Hill moved to Nashville to pursue her
dream of becoming a country music artist. Her first big
break came when she landed a receptionist position at Gary
Morris’ Publishing Company. After cutting her first
demo, which impressed her boss, she became a backup singer
for Gary Burr. Between her job as a receptionist and singing
backup at the famous Bluebird Café, Faith Hill continued
to record demos and write songs.
It was
as a backup singer that Faith Hill first caught the attention
of a music executive from Warner Brothers, and she was soon
recording her first album “Take Me As I Am.”
When it was released in 1993, “Take Me As I Am”
was so well-received it went triple-platinum. “Wild
Woman,” the album’s first single, skyrocketed
to the top spot of the Billboard Country charts. Faith Hill’s
debut single stayed at number one for an astounding four
weeks; almost 30 years since the last female country artist,
Connie Smith, had done the same.
Her
sophomore album, “It Matters To Me,” sold over
four million copies, solidifying Faith Hill’s status
a country star. Only a year later, she and country star
Tim McGraw tied the knot. The duo released the popular single
“It’s Your Love” in 1998. That same year,
Hill’s single “This Kiss” became both
a mainstream and a country hit. While it hit number one
on the country charts, “This Kiss” stayed steady
at number seven on the Billboard Pop Charts.
From
there, Faith Hill continued to release wildly successful
albums, including: Faith (1998), Breathe (1999), and Cry
(2002). Her latest album, Fireflies, hit store shelves in
2005.
Millions
have bought Faith Hill concert tickets to see her perform
her most popular songs, and millions more watched as she
sang at the Super Bowl and at the Olympics. In addition,
the country superstar has crossed over into acting, landing
a plum role in 2004’s “The Stepford Wives,”
transforming her into not only a country superstar but a
respected actress.
