While today he may be best known as Jennifer Lopez’s
husband, Marc Anthony has an impressive resume of musical
and acting accomplishments that include performing on
Broadway, selling hit records, and acting in major Hollywood
films.
Whereas many people strive to excel in one field, Anthony
has successfully forged careers in both music and acting,
which should come as little surprise to anyone who knows
his background. It was his father, in fact, who taught
Anthony how to compose songs and about music theory.
In turn, Anthony got his big break when he was only
12, when he was offered the opportunity to sing backup
in numerous commercials and songs.
While he remained in the background at the beginning,
Anthony’s writing ability shone, and by 1991,
he was ready to release his debut album, “When
The Night Is Over,” which scored Anthony a hit
single with the dance number “Ride on the Rhythm.”
For his sophomore effort, Anthony released “Otra
Nota,” and had a heavy salsa influence. The album
featured only one song in English, “Make With
You.” Anthony followed with 1995’s “Todo
Su Tiempo,” earning Anthony his first Grammy nod.
It wasn’t until 1999, however, that Anthony attempted
to win English-speaking audiences in the United States.
His self-titled album featured the hit single “I
Need To Know,” which made it into the top five
on U.S. music charts. The album also spawned the hit
singles “My Baby You” and “When I
Dream At Night.” “Mark Anthony” also
featured the single “You Sang To Me,” and
reached millions of fans who watched the film “Runaway
Bride.” Regardless of where in the world he performed,
Marc Anthony concert tickets’ sales hit an all-time
high.
Following on the heals of the success of his 1999 album,
Anthony released “Libre” in 2001 and “Mended”
in 2002.
Anthony has also appeared in numerous Hollywood films,
including “Natural Causes” (1994), “Hackers”
(1995), “The Substitute” (1996), “Bringing
Out The Dead” (1999), and “Man on Fire”
(2004).
Anthony’s most recent album, “Valio la
Pena,” was released in 2004.
