Neil Diamond was born in Brooklyn,
New York and has been a singer/songwriter for more than
35 years. His first record company, Bang! Records, produced
a string of hits for him in “Cherry, Cherry,”
“Kentucky Woman,” and “Solitary Man.”
As a song writer he hit immediate gold with “I’m
a Believer,” performed by The Monkees, and later
in the 80’s hit struck again with “Red, Red
Wine,” performed by UB40. After singing and making
albums in New York, Neil Diamond decided to try out Los
Angeles in 1970 and signed a deal with MCA Records. His
sound began to mellow once with MCA and he produced such
hits as “Sweet Caroline,” and “Song
Sung Blue.” In 1973, he made another jump to Columbia
Records, which recorded such hits as “You Don’t
Bring Me Flowers,” “America,” and “Love
on the Rocks.” In 2000, Neil Diamond was given the
Sammy Cahn Lifetime Achievement Award by the Songwriter’s
Hall of Fame.
Perhaps Neil Diamond’s most amazing achievements
fall in the category of his live performances and tours.
