System of a Down came to be in the
mid-90’s in southern California. The foursome, made
up of 4 Armenian musicians bent on making a sound and
genre that no band had done before, built a large fan
base in the Los Angeles metal scene. Surprisingly enough,
at the time of their signing a contract with American/Columbia,
they only had a three song demo circulating the globe
and the best form of marketing, word of mouth from all
their loyal fans.
In 1997, System of a Down released their self-titled
debut album. The album was a hit in the metal genre
and it secured the band a coveted slot with the Ozzfest
tour in the summer of 1998. Their hardcore/speed style
combined with political and religious lyrics set the
stage for System of a Down to sell millions of records
and nab a fan base that instantly devours bands that
appear too commercial. Never considered a sell-out band,
System of a Down released their second album, Toxicity,
in 2001 and produced two instant hits with “Chop
Suey” and “Toxicity,” both of which
received heavy radio and MTV airplay. By the time Ozzfest
came around in 2002, the success of Toxicity earned
System of a Down a headlining spot on the tour. Heavy
touring and live performances across the US and the
rest of the world delayed their next release until May
of 2005. Their third album, Mezmerize, also became an
instant staple in any metal album collection, with the
first single, “B.Y.O.B” becoming a huge
hit.
System of a Down toured extensively following each
of their albums and Mezmerize has been no different.
System of a Down concert tickets have sold out instantly
across the US and their fans are eager for more. With
their truly original sound and the loyal fan base behind
them, System of a Down should remain a strong leader
and trendsetter in the hard rock music industry for
quite some time.
