Every summer the Warped Tour visits cities across the
United States, featuring the hottest heavy metal and
punk bands. The Warped Tour has become a summer staple,
an event that draws thousands of dedicated fans for
an evening of great music with major bands and because
of its inexpensive tickets. Because of the Warped Tour’s
massive success in its more than a decade of touring,
founder Kevin Lyman decided to create a similar show,
Taste of Chaos, that adds sizzle to the winter months.
While the Warped Tour features such diverse musical
styles as punk, emo, heavy metal, and rap, Taste of
Chaos caters to the hardcore heavy metal and hard rock
crowd.
Taste of Chaos made its winter debut in 2005, featuring
such acts as My Chemical Romance, Killswitch Engage,
and the Used. Fans lined up for Taste of Chaos concert
tickets, and it soon became a smashing success, even
going international with shows throughout Europe, Australia,
and Asia.
The second offering of Taste of Chaos featured an impressive
lineup, including: Thrice, Deftones, Story of the Year,
As I Lay Dying, Thursday, Silverstein, Funeral for a
Friend, Broke, Millionaire, and American Eyes. The tour
kicked off in the sunny Southern California city of
San Diego and played more than 40 U.S. and Canadian
cities in the ensuing three months.
Following the success of the debut Taste of Chaos,
a compilation album, featuring many of the artists who
appeared at the winter event hit store shelves in late
September 2005, allowing fans to relive the excitement
of the tour.
As summer nears and the Warped Tour will again be hitting
venues across the country, Taste of Chaos wrapped its
sophomore season in Montreal in mid-April, closing the
curtain on another successful winter concert season.
While summer has yet to make its debut, Lyman is already
making plans for the 2007 edition of the Taste of Chaos
tour. If the first two years of the tour is any indication,
Taste of Chaos is likely to become a winter tradition,
much like the Warped Tour has become as much a part
of summer as baseball and fireworks.
