Velvet Revolver

Velvet Revolver is one of modern rock’s “supergroups.” Composed of three former members of Guns n’ Roses, Slash, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum along with Scott Weiland, former lead singer of The Stone Temple Pilots. The band initially formed to play a benefit concert for musician Randy Castillo in 2002 and they decided to stick together and find a lead singer. The referred to their temporary group as The Project and VH1 took on the video taping of their hunt for a lead singer. Scott Weiland fit the bill perfectly and Velvet Revolver recorded their first track, “Set Me Free” for The Hulk soundtrack in 2003 and then later that year performed their first live show at El Rey in Los Angeles. Finally after Weiland’s drug rehabilitation was over, the band recorded their first album, Contraband, which debuted at number one on the Billboard charts.

Hard rock fans took immediately to Velvet Revolver and the band started to tour across the US supporting their album and concert tickets began to sell out at every show. With such hits as “Fall to Pieces” and “Dirty Little Thing,” both of which have videos, Velvet Revolver was getting their name in several of rocks inner circles as well as on modern music stations. By March of 2005, Contraband had sold 1.6 million albums and the global tour was definitely helping out. Already the band has toured the US and Europe twice and also managed to stop over in Australia and Japan. Building a worldwide fan base and pulling from veteran experience will definitely help their next release as Velvet Revolver is slated to head back in the studios for another album in the fall of 2005.
