Weezer formed in 1992 in Los Angeles, CA and became
a true American rock and roll band even though their
genre of music is more related to alternative rock.
Five weeks after forming, the quartet began playing
the extremely competitive LA club scene. They had enough
talent and live performing ability to attract Todd Sullivan
from Geffen Records and signed a contract. Their first
album, self-titled Weezer but referred to by fans as
The Blue Album, produced three instant hits upon release,
“Undone (The Sweater Song,” “Buddy
Holly,” and “Say it Ain’t So.”
What further boosted Weezer’s fan base was the
ground breaking videos that accompanied these songs
and MTV audiences couldn’t get enough. After these
videos, Weezer easily became pop icons and toured extensively
to further promote sales of their debut album. Weezer
quickly came out with a follow-up album, Pinkerton,
but several critics gave bad reviews for their sophomore
effort and the band began to actively pursue solo projects.
During Weezer’s hiatus from each other, many
feared that the band was over and that they were just
going to fade away. But after a few years and a continually
growing fan base from their first two albums, Weezer
decided to record a third album, self-titled again but
referred to as The Green Album, in 2000 and followed
it with extensive touring. It apparently worked because
5 years later, Weezer now has five albums and has sold
more than 5 million records worldwide.
Keeping an intensive tour schedule has been on of the
backbones of Weezer’s success. Weezer concert
tickets sale in every country they visit. Fans flock
from Europe, Japan, Australia and the US to witness
a classic rock and roll group that has managed to last
past the ten year mark, an insurmountable feat in today’s
modern rock world. With groundbreaking videos and catchy
yet meaningful lyrics, Weezer has now safely carved
a place for themselves in the alternative rock world.
